Amazon Brand Registry is one of the most significant levers a UK seller can pull. It unlocks A+ Content, Sponsored Brands ads, Brand Analytics, the Amazon Storefront, and powerful tools to protect your listings from hijackers and counterfeiters. If you sell a branded product and are not registered, you are competing with one hand tied behind your back.
This guide covers everything: what Brand Registry is, who qualifies, how to apply, and — crucially — how to actually use the tools it unlocks to grow your sales.
What Is Amazon Brand Registry?
Amazon Brand Registry is a free programme that gives brand owners enhanced control over their Amazon presence. Once enrolled, your brand is verified and you get access to a suite of tools that ordinary sellers do not have. The programme exists primarily for two reasons:
- To protect genuine brand owners from counterfeiters, hijackers, and intellectual property violations
- To enable brands to build richer, more differentiated presence on Amazon through enhanced content and advertising tools
Over 700,000 brands are enrolled globally. For UK sellers in competitive categories, it is now essentially a baseline requirement for running a serious Amazon business.
What Brand Registry Unlocks
A+ Content
Replace the plain-text product description with rich modules: comparison charts, lifestyle images, brand story sections, ingredient highlights. Typically lifts conversion rate by 3–10%.
Sponsored Brands Ads
Run banner ads at the top of search results featuring your logo, headline, and multiple products. The most prominent ad placement on Amazon — unavailable without Brand Registry.
Amazon Storefront
Build a multi-page branded shop on Amazon with your own URL (amazon.co.uk/stores/YourBrand). No competitors’ ads shown. Acts as a landing page for off-Amazon traffic.
Brand Analytics
Access Amazon’s own search data — top search terms, market basket analysis, repeat purchase rates, demographic data. Invaluable for keyword and product strategy.
Amazon Vine
Enrol new products (with fewer than 30 reviews) in Vine to receive honest reviews from Amazon’s vetted reviewer community. Fastest legitimate way to build review count on launch.
IP Accelerator & Report a Violation
Submit IP infringement reports directly and have Amazon act on them rapidly. Counterfeit listings removed in hours rather than weeks. The Report a Violation tool is powerful and fast.
Brand Tailored Promotions
Target your followers, repeat customers, and high-spend customers with exclusive promotions. Closed-loop promotions for your most valuable buyer segments.
Manage Your Experiments
A/B test your product titles, main images, and A+ Content to find which version converts better. Statistically significant split tests run directly on Amazon.
Who Is Eligible for Brand Registry?
The core requirement is a registered trademark. Your trademark must be:
- Registered (not just applied for — though see the IP Accelerator note below)
- In text or image form (word marks and logo marks both qualify)
- Registered in the country where you want to be enrolled (e.g. UK trademark for amazon.co.uk)
If your trademark application is pending, Amazon’s IP Accelerator programme can connect you with Amazon-vetted UK trademark attorneys who can help expedite your application. In some cases, sellers with a pending application through IP Accelerator can access Brand Registry provisionally while the trademark is being processed. This can significantly shorten the wait.
The trademark registration number you submit must match the brand name on your Amazon products exactly. If your trademark is “GardenCo” but your Amazon listings say “Garden Co.” (with a space and period), this can cause rejection. Make sure your Amazon brand name matches your trademark precisely before applying.
How to Apply for Brand Registry: Step-by-Step
-
Confirm your trademark is registered
Check your trademark registration number is active on the UK IPO website (gov.uk/search-for-trademark). You’ll need the registration number, the trademark name or image, and the country of registration.
-
Go to brandregistry.amazon.co.uk
Sign in with your Seller Central credentials (or create an account if you don’t have one). Brand Registry has its own portal separate from Seller Central.
-
Start your brand enrolment
Click “Enrol a new brand.” Enter your brand name (must match trademark exactly), the trademark registration number, the IP office where it’s registered (UK IPO), and the trademark type (word mark or image mark).
-
Provide product and image details
Upload images showing your brand name visibly on the product or packaging. The physical product must bear the brand name — not just the Amazon listing. Also provide the product categories your brand sells in.
-
Verify via trademark office email
Amazon sends a verification code to the email address on file with the trademark office. The UK IPO usually holds the email of the trademark owner or agent. You need access to that email address to verify — this is the step that catches many sellers off guard. If you used a trademark attorney, they likely received the email.
-
Wait for approval
Amazon typically processes Brand Registry applications within 2–10 business days after successful verification. You’ll receive an email when enrolled. The features activate in Seller Central within 24 hours of approval.
Brand name mismatch between trademark and Amazon listing. Trademark not yet registered (only pending). Images not clearly showing the brand name on the physical product. No access to the email registered with the trademark office. If rejected, Amazon will tell you the reason — fix it and resubmit rather than starting a new application.
Using Brand Analytics: The Hidden Gem
Most sellers enrol in Brand Registry for A+ Content or Sponsored Brands — and then ignore Brand Analytics. This is a mistake. Brand Analytics contains data that is available nowhere else:
- Amazon Search Terms Report — the actual search queries customers use, ranked by frequency. Updated weekly. This is the most valuable keyword research tool that exists for Amazon, and it’s free for brand-registered sellers.
- Market Basket Analysis — which products customers buy alongside yours. Reveals cross-sell opportunities and competitor associations.
- Item Comparison & Alternate Purchase Behaviour — which products customers view before buying yours, and which they buy instead when they don’t buy yours.
- Demographics — age, household income, education, and gender breakdown of your buyers. Useful for targeting off-Amazon advertising.
- Repeat Purchase Behaviour — what percentage of your buyers are new vs. repeat customers. Critical for understanding category loyalty.
Protecting Your Listings with Brand Registry
The enforcement tools in Brand Registry are genuinely powerful. Here is how to use them:
Report a Violation
Found a counterfeit product or a listing using your brand name without permission? Go to Brand Registry → Protect → Report a Violation. Submit the ASIN and the violation type. Amazon’s Brand Registry team can remove violating listings within hours for established brands. Keep records of all submissions.
Project Zero
An advanced counterfeiting protection programme. Once enrolled (by invitation or application), you can remove counterfeit listings yourself without waiting for Amazon review — instant takedown. Also includes product serialisation, which lets you embed unique QR codes on each unit to verify authenticity.
Transparency Programme
Amazon’s product serialisation service. You apply unique Transparency codes to each unit. Amazon scans these codes before shipping. Counterfeits without valid codes are identified before they reach customers. Most effective for brands with significant counterfeiting problems.
Set a recurring task to check for brand violations weekly. Search your brand name on Amazon and review the results for unauthorized sellers, counterfeit products, or listings using your trademarked images. Consistent enforcement is more effective than occasional large sweeps — it deters bad actors before they become established.
A+ Content and Sponsored Brands: Making the Most of Brand Registry
These are the two highest-value benefits for most sellers:
- A+ Content — available on all your Brand Registered ASINs. Start with your top 10 bestsellers. Use comparison charts to cross-sell and brand story modules to build recognition. Premium A+ (available once you have 15+ approved A+ modules) adds interactive hotspots and video.
- Sponsored Brands — the banner ads that appear above search results. Run them targeting your main keywords. They drive brand awareness even when they don’t convert immediately — repeated exposure to your logo builds recognition that improves conversion on Sponsored Products ads later.
